I'm Doin Fine

You’ve already missed the best years of your life

The old man, he spoke his piece

Well I sipped my drink and wondered,

“Was that comin’ to me?”

‘Cause I sure ain’t getting’ no younger

An’ time ain’t slowin’ for me

If I catch s’more memories along the way

Call me a thief

‘cause my minds still healthy, and my body’s still strong

I got a lady who loves me and she keeps me movin’ on

a passionate family made me what I am today

I get my meals I have my shelter with the money I make

all a’ my friends I cherish, I know they’d be there if I call

I guess I got no reason in this world to complain at all

so if anyone’s listening,  I’d like to take the time

sometimes it’s nice when ya’ realize

I’m doin’ fine

So I bought the old man a whisky on me

Asked if I could pick his brain

He said “You’ve got better things to do,

than hear me complain.”

With a little liquid encouragement

I got him to change his mind

Turns out I was the only one

Who’s doin’ fine

‘cause my minds still healthy, and my body’s still strong

I got a lady who loves me and she keeps me movin’ on

a passionate family made me what I am today

I get my meals I have my shelter with the money I make

all a’ my friends I cherish, I know they’d be there if I call

I guess I got no reason in this world to complain at all

so if anyone’s listening,  I’d like to take the time

sometimes it’s nice when ya’ realize

I’m doin’ fine

Just as sure as I stand here on solid ground

Tender aspirations spinnin’ round and round

Sometimes searchin’ we lose track….

Of what we’ve found

Maybe Take A Chance

So ya’ get a little uptight

When a fork in the road finds your feet

People look to you for answers

“Why they lookin’ at me?

Who am I to lead them?

What it I fall on my face

What if I wind up with emotion

Spread all over the place?”

Maybe take a chance on a feelin

Maybe choose to fight no matter what

Maybe then you won’t look back and wonder

Maybe shoulda’ gone with my gut

Maybe just tempt a little fortune

Maybe exercise a little risk

Maybe throw caution a little caution

Into a breeze a little brisk

You know life ain’t easy

You gotta’ live and let learn

There’s always somethin’ good to find

Even when we get burned

So next time you find yourself

All alone at the gate

Stand up tall and make a call

Then leave it up to fate

Maybe take a chance on a feelin

Maybe choose to fight no matter what

Maybe then you won’t look back and wonder

Maybe shoulda’ gone with my gut

Maybe just tempt a little fortune

Maybe exercise a little risk

Maybe throw caution a little caution

Into a breeze a little brisk

Same Old Face

Here I am again

Back in the same place

Same old mind, same old face

Expression stripped

Fire now cold

“It’ll get easier,” so I’m told

And told and told

And told ‘till at last

My anticipated ‘morrow has faded to past

And dragged down with it

My drive, my will

Shunning away hope my time stands still

Hesitant I become

To confront what’s next

Experience says it’s not worth the time I invest

But I’m sure I won’t listen

Can’t explain why

When faced with a challenge I’ll continue to try

And eventually I’ll wind up

Back in the same place

Same old mind, same old face

The Search

In the clearing dust my eyes watch The chariots of my youth

Six horses thund’ring fast away They’re carrying the truth

I question all that’s Holy Question all I have

Wonderin’ if the two will ever Walk the same path

Am I holdin’ out, wastin’ time

Fruitless search with nothing to find

Sun sets soon and the road is long

Plead with Thee to hear my song

Hallowed Soldier prove me wrong

Fear reminds me I’m not so strong, I can’t hold on…

…..and so I run

I’ve been to Houses Holy Heard Disciples preach

Siftin’ through I can’t see If it’s me they’re tryin’ to reach

At times I think I feel it Blind I hear a call

But when I passed away the offering plate Deacon’s eyes said it all

The Spirit, He escapes me, The Father’s in the land

I wish I could meet Jesus Maybe He would understand

They say the firey depths are waiting, Destiny of the lost

If I spend a lifetime searching, Would it be at Eternal cost?

Am I holdin’ out, wastin’ time

Fruitless search with nothing to find

Sun sets soon and the road is long

Plead with Thee to hear my song

Hallowed Soldier prove me wrong

Fear reminds me I’m not so strong, I can’t hold on…

…..and so I run

Why can’t I see, why can’t Thee explain

If I offered up my soiled hands

would He walk me Through this filty rain

For know not I, but I can’t believe

From where I stand that Heaven’s ain’t the place for me

Heaven’s ain’t the place for me

Lonely Song

Out of town, out of touch

Never missed you so much

Lights reflecting back, to a time

Turn back the clocks when you were

By my side

There’s no one here to speak my mind

I keep in all here inside

HEY!  This is the lonely song

HEY!  This is the lonely song

Havin’ a hard time tryin’ to figure out

How to move on

Evenin’ air, broken speech

Cannot bring you to me…to mee yeah

If I scream out loud, down the street

Would the sidewalk carry you to me…to me yeah

HEY!  This is the lonely song

HEY!  This is the lonely song

Havin’ a hard time tryin’ to figure out

How to move on

….Havin’ a hard time tryin’ to figure out

How can I live without?

Since I’m alone I can shout it!!

How do I move on?  ……How do I move on?

…stuck inside this lonely song

Addict

I don’t know where it started Scared where it may end

Brand new story Same old friend

Faces in the shadows Sorrow in a song

Bloody my own conscience Where did I go wrong?

Did I lose my focus? Did ya’ try so hard?

When I picked up the bottle Did I let down my guard?

Never felt so blinded In the dark and unaware

I don’t wanna’ be angry And I don’t wanna’ be scared

But you treat this like it’s some kind of every day problem

Some run-of-the-mill affliction

Dilute yourself in self-control

Better take hold ‘cause here’s my prediction

You’re gonna’ fall…

And your way down they will paint you, a diagnosis obscure

You’re gonna’ fall…

And the only sound will be tranquility on your way to the cure

Screamin out normalcy Blend it right in

Water in my eyes While your blood runs thin

Feeding off naivety We watched as you hid

Never thought I’d let someone slide But you slid

Feel I’m walkin’ on glass now But I ain’t the one

Gotta’ fight through the shadows To find the sun

God I know I’m shakin’  Don’t mistake it for fear

Only cautious of tomorrow       Where do we go from here

But you treat this like it’s some kind of every day problem

Some run-of-the-mill affliction

Dilute yourself in self-control

Better take hold ‘cause here’s my prediction

You’re gonna’ fall…

And your way down they will paint you, a diagnosis obscure

You’re gonna’ fall…

And the only sound will be tranquility on your way to the cure

Chest Of Regret

In this lifetime, a past bittersweet

Memories that haunt me, others I’d keep

I’ve painted many smiles, I’ve saved many days

But in between the hilltops are valleys of pain

Carved out a river whose current runs deep

Flowin’ with repentance…for secrets I keep

This chest of regret, under lock and key

Holdin’ all my ghosts, holdin’ back my dreams

Each and every faulter and mistake I’ve made

I open the chest, and lock up the pain

I can try to forgive myself, but I can’t forget

All the things I hold, in this chest of regret

Got what I need now, I’m….on my way

But can I let go of a…darker day?

All the times they trusted, times they yield

No skin, no bone….strong enough shield

Impossible to mend, impossible recourse

Over time, overcome…. immeasurable remorse

Ohh the water is thicker than blood

This dirt stained vermilion can never be mud

I could be the stone that….ripples the rest

Don’t want a schedule for the family I know best

Comes down to commitment, comes down to me

Need to seize this chance before it’s memory

This chest of regret, under lock and key

Holdin’ all my ghosts, holdin’ back my dreams

Each and every faulter and mistake I’ve made

I open the chest, and lock up the pain

I can try to forgive myself, but I can’t forget

All the things I hold, in this chest of regret

In Your Absence

My mind is uneasy, my sleep has been light

Tossing and turning all thru the night

Clutching my pillow, from a dream I awake

There’s a chill in the air as day starts to break

Reachin’ for the curtains I open to find

Fragmented pieces of a conscious mind

Each of them was dreary and windless and bland

It seemed beauty had escaped this once familiar land

The trees were leafless and the gardens were bare

A think dirty haze had filled the air

It smothered the down and drown out the light

The scene now painted in black and white

The birds they were grounded and left without song

I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what was wrong

Then it finally hit me when I returned to bed
I realized these existed only in my head

I put them there to see what it would be like

If you were no longer a part of my life

Comin Home To You

PEOPLE SAY THAT I’M A FORTUNATE MAN TO HOLD A JOB LIKE I DO

I SUPPOSE THEY’RE RIGHT AND IT SURE FEELS NICE

BRINGIN’ MONEY HOME EVERY WEEK OR TWO

STILL THROUGH THE FORTY HOURS I LABOR

SOMETHIN’ JUST DON’T RUB ME RIGHT

COULD BE THE SHRIKIN’ OF THESE WALLS

MIGHT BE THE CLOCKS THAT CRAWL

BUT I FORGET IT ALL WHEN DAY TURNS TO NIGHT

AND AT THE END OF A LONG DAY’S TOIL

WHEN ALL MY WORKIN’ IS THROUGH

NO THEY CAN’T STOP ME NOW

THEY CAN’T HOLD ME DOWN

I’M FEELIN’ BETTER NOW COMIN’ HOME TO YOU

YES I’M FEELIN’ BETTER NOW COMIN’ HOME TO YOU

I TELL YOU WHAT IT’S SURPRISING HOW I MANAGE TO STAY IN LINE

THERE ARE DAYS WHEN I’M OUT WALKIN

NOT TURNIN’ BACK CROSSES MY MIND

BUT I KNOW RUNNIN’ WON’T SOLVE ANYTHING

WHEN I RETURN IT’LL BE THE SAME

AND I JUST CAN’T TAKE A CHANCE OF LOSING YOU

AND THAT LITTLE SMILE THAT KEEPS ME SANE

AND AT THE END OF A LONG DAY’S TOIL

WHEN ALL MY WORKIN’ IS THROUGH

NO THEY CAN’T STOP ME NOW

THEY CAN’T HOLD ME DOWN

I’M FEELIN’ BETTER NOW COMIN’ HOME TO YOU

YES I’M FEELIN’ BETTER NOW COMIN’ HOME TO YOU

DESPITE ALL THIS MESS, LORD I MUST CONFESS

THAT I HAVE BEEN TRULY BLESSED WITH THE LADY I’VE FOUND

AND AS UGLY AS THINGS TEND TO GET

I KNOW THAT I’LL GET THROUGH IT

AS LONG AS SHE IS STILL AROUND

AND AT THE END OF A LONG DAY’S TOIL

WHEN ALL MY WORKIN’ IS THROUGH

NO THEY CAN’T STOP ME NOW

THEY CAN’T HOLD ME DOWN

I’M FEELIN’ BETTER NOW COMIN’ HOME TO YOU

YES I’M FEELIN’ BETTER NOW COMIN’ HOME TO YOU

You Set Me Free

You come to me with the weight of the world

Bearin’ down heavy on your skin

This time-honored crush is more than you can stand

I come to you with my cyclical crutch

Can’t believe I’ve wound up here again

Tuck away my interest, yield to the man

Forget about your troubles, forget about the pain

We’ll run to that place, where it all goes away

Let’s lay down ‘neath a shade tree

Silly kisses and daydreams

Talk about the places we wanna’ see

Like the children we used to be

Getting’ caught up in mystery

When I’m with you, you set me free

Ooo you set me free

Why do we struggle why to we fight

We know it takes it’s toll over time

Turns out it almost always turns out fine

We got to believe that everything

Happens to all of us for a reason

We need to hold that soft edge in the daily grind

Forget about your troubles, forget about the pain

We’ll run to that place, where it all goes away

Let’s lay down ‘neath a shade tree

Silly kisses and daydreams

Talk about the places we wanna’ see

Like the children we used to be

Getting’ caught up in mystery

When I’m with you, you set me free

Ooo you set me free

Got it if you want to

Got a feelin’ running through

God I know when I need it, I can count on you

Let’s lay down ‘neath a shade tree

Silly kisses and daydreams

Talk about the places we wanna’ see

Like the children we used to be

Getting’ caught up in mystery

When I’m with you, you set me free

Ooo you set me free

Ooo you set me free

In Line

just above the roar of an in-line 6

there are things not yet gone but I know I’d miss

Eddie’s in my ear, my mind, says it’s nothing man

but I think he knows better, ya’ know we gotta’ have a plan

(…and it) trickles on indefinitely ‘till I’ve run out of past

salt is on a broken lip, still I feel like I could laugh

I’m a pawn but I’m not trustin’, I feel the rain but I’m not rustin’

we come together piece by piece

return to the place that had the energy of ten

I’m wiser now but I’d give it back just to feel that way again

I’ve never been so sure about a place I don’t know

so take my hand & get in line, we’ll go there…we’ll go there

blood and mischief’s all around me, I tend to shrug it off

10 years gone and nothing’s changed, just frozen at the top

greenback’s still the king religion suffers every blow

don’t try to talk future with me, I don’t know…

(I don’t)…figure talkin’ to myself is makin’ any sense

hesitate to let you on the green side of the fence

I nibble on the arm that feeds me, justified I feel he needs me

2 prisoners to be released

return to the place that had the energy of ten

I’m wiser now but I’d give it back just to feel that way again

I’ve never been so sure about a place I don’t know

so take my hand & get in line, we’ll go there…we’ll go there

I’m back at the 6 it’s talkin’, song is endin’ people walkin’

where I’m goin’….they don’t know

Last One Standing

We built you up, by no mistake

Hailed and regarded thru short days

Your story told, you fight the cold

So all the children may play

You hide your fear, when the ground clears

With the changing of the season

Some may think it’s a fever, but I know

You’re the reason

You’ll always be, the last one standin’ After all is said and done

Regardless of the scene, or circumstances,You’re standin’

All those around you know, No matter what in life you’re handed

You’ll always be, the last one standin’

You molded us, in your image

With a vision of family and love

A patient hand to clear the land

With a little help from above

You vowed to keep us warm, protect us from the storm

Makin’ sure we all survive

We all know when times are tough

You’ll be the one that keeps hope alive

You’ll always be, the last one standin’ After all is said and done

Regardless of the scene, or circumstances,You’re standin’

All those around you know, No matter what in life you’re handed

You’ll always be, the last one standin’

We call on you, in our darkest hour

You hold the power to save us day or night

You don’t carry no weapon, no armour

Into the infernal fight

In the back of your mind, I’m sure I could find

A knowledge, you may not return

So before you go, we wanted you to know

Our pride for you will always burn

You’ll always be, the last one standin’ After all is said and done

Regardless of the scene, or circumstances,You’re standin’

All those around you know, No matter what in life you’re handed

You’ll always be, the last one standin’

Stand here with me……

Cycles

In tender years, as livin’ things

It’s hard to gauge what life will bring

The innate mind only holds so much

But the spirit from others lives

That’s touched each of us deep inside

When we need it most a tender touch

Don’t know for sure how it gets there

Could be what we see when we breathe winter air

Don’t know for sure and I don’t care

When I think about the cycles I see

Things I can’t explain around me

I smile every time I see it there…I see it there

I never tried to care, didn’t mean to cry

It’s somethin’ that hits when emotion runs high

Behave just like my mom and dad

But I smile ‘cause I know down the road

When my wife and I have kids of our own

They’ll all feel the love I had

Don’t know for sure how it gets there

Could be what we see when we breathe winter air

Don’t know for sure and I don’t care

When I think about the cycles I see

Things I can’t explain around me

I smile every time I see it there…I see it there

There’s somethin’ ‘bout a dog and a boy

The bond they share the love the joy

My hardest day was letting go

And I cried as I walked through the door

Got kisses from our black labradoor

I knew right then she wasn’t far from home

Don’t know for sure how it gets there

Could be what we see when we breathe winter air

Don’t know for sure and I don’t care

When I think about the cycles I see

Things I can’t explain around me

I smile every time I see it there…I see it there
